Inspirational Quotes in Geraldine’s Books

I’ve always loved reading quotes from historical and modern writers, and over the years I have amassed a large collection of books with inspirational sayings or quotes. I also have lots of framed quotes dotted amongst my pictures and paintings. Sometimes a few lines of writing can paint a picture as great as any artist.

Also, I think these small quotes often lead onto much larger thinking, and I’ve often spent time just pondering over the meaning of them. If I come across several sayings by the same writer whose take on life engages me, I find myself going out to the bookshop to find further books written by them.

Quotes can be encouraging, inspiring or comforting and in many cases a few words can describe a much, much bigger idea. When I’m writing my novels, there usually comes a stage when I feel that a certain quote will reflect the whole book, or - in some cases a section of the book - and that will be the one I will use. The only problem is, when I stop to search through my books for a particular saying, I usually end up spending hours reading them all over again!! Here are some of the inspirational quotes I have used in my books.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!!

reach the dawn
save by the path
of the night.

that reached farthest
into heaven,
it is the beating
of a loving heart.

ANON

Tara’s Fortune
Life is a series of natural
And spontaneous change.
Don’t resist them – that only creates sorrow,
Let reality be reality.
Let things flow naturally forward,
In whatever way they will.
LAO-TSE

Walls have been built against us,
But we are always fighting to tear them down,
And in fighting
we grow,
we find new strength,
new scope

Is the bird
That feels the light
When the dawn
Is still dark
RABINDRANETH TAGORE

Aisling Gayle

Come to the edge, he said,
They said: We are afraid,
Come to the edge, he said,
They came: He pushed them …
And they flew.
GUILLAUME APOLLINAIRE

The Grace Girls

If a man cannot keep pace with his companions,
Perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer,
Let him step to the music that he hears,
However measured or far away.
HENRY DAVID THOREAU

The Flowers of Ballygrace

Those undeserved joys
which come uncalled
and make us more pleased
than grateful -
are they that sing.
THOREAU
